Villa la Madonnina: SEASONS and WEATHER

The Amalfi coast with its main attractions Amalfi, Ravello, Praiano, Furore and Positano is known for its mild climate year round. It has a special  micro climate which is influenced by the sea on one side and the protection through high mountains on the other side. In winter the weather it is quite mild and in summer gentle winds often make hot weather more pleasant. Every season has its special characteristics. Spring and autumn have a mild climate and you already can go swimming end of March or still go swimming till November.
Summer
especially August is the tourist high season. The weather can be quite warm -see the table with average temperatures - but normally gentle winds make the higher temperatures more pleasant. With the Villa la Madonnina with its large living space, the swimming pool and private access to the sea you have a perfect retreat when you want to avoid the tourists.

We love spending time there in "winter". It can be rainy and stormy some days but  there were always days where we could sit outside and enjoy lunch sitting in  the warm sun.  There can be periods with brilliant weather, but of course there is no guarantee. See photos in  Christmas and winter at the Amalfi coast . This time of the year is also a good  for or visiting all the different tourist attractions on the coast or plan an excursion to the archeological sites in Pompei, Ercolaneo and Paestum, visit Napels -  a magic place for itself - or Capri in winter - wonderful.  The one main advantage is that this season belongs to the local people and only few tourists. The main disadvantages in winter are the shorter daylight and that swimming in the sea is only possible for the brave people - people like my friend Nino who swims every day. Also less restaurants are open. See my favorite restaurants. Its a good time for hiking too - see my favorite hikes. In January the  first flowers start to blossom. Last time we counted 11 different plants which blossomed. So why not try it? Villa la Madonnina is perfectly suited for a vacation also in winter. Unlike many other villas it was built as a year round family home with heating / air con facilities and a very cozy drawing room with a fireplace and from the loggia - our "eagle's nest" - you can watch the sometime rough sea well protected from the weather.
